As we all know AGL Energy Ltd is an Australian listed public company involved in both the generation and retailing of electricity and gas for residential and commercial use. AGL Energy generates energy from power stations that use thermal power, natural gas, wind power, hydroelectricity, solar energy, gas storage and coal seam gas sources.
There is great news coming in for customers as AGL is all set to set new standards by offering its customer a carbon neutral option on all its electricity plans. It is taking a step forward to support the energy sector’s transition to clean energy. The nation’s biggest emitter, plans to split off its coal-fired generation into a separate unit as increased renewables generation upends the nation’s electricity landscape.
AGL will be completing 91 solar installations for Vinnies Victoria, generating 1992 megawatt hours (MWh) of energy annually, the equivalent generation of more than 415 average Australian homes.
Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change the Hon. Lily D’Ambrosio said “It’s fabulous to see community organizations reducing their bills and slashing their emissions by installing solar panels. It all counts as we work towards halving our carbon emissions by 2030.” Join the green side with Arise solar and contribute to reducing carbon emissions.
Redman says New AGL will be Australia’s largest multi-product energy retailer with 4.4 million customers and with an energy trading business backed by “a portfolio of flexible generation and storage assets”.
AGL is undoubtedly set to gain some positive image from media involving its latest developments and transitions. As of May 2021, GREENPEACE published a report stating AGL is Australia’s number one climate polluter, and it’s not even close. 85% of their electricity comes from burning dirty coal, meaning they emit more than double the next biggest polluter. This campaign by GREENPEACE resulted in equity investors screening out AGL as an investment option because of its coal reliant industries.
In accordance with AGL’s climate statement by Brett Redman, it will continue to respond to the forces of customer demand, how communities act, and how technology evolves, and play a role in achieving net zero emissions by 2050 for their business and hopefully, for the Australian economy.
